Story about the salty springs of Druskininkai
The Duke of Liškiava was hunting in the woods by the river Nemunas many years ago. He appeared to hunt in the area where the town of Druskininkai is nowadays. The hunting went really well and was very successful. The old tradition said that in order to thank gods, the falcon needs to be shot as a sacrifice. The falcon was set loose. The Duke made a shot and the falcon pierced by the arrow fell down into the river Nemunas. The duke jumped into the river right after the falcon and disappeared. All the courtiers thought that the Duke had drowned. The duchess was very much heart broken and upset. She was running along the bank of the river and crying. Her salty tears were dropping down on the earth. After a long while the duke came back to the surface with the falcon in his hands. He was safe. Since then on every spot where salty tear had dropped, the salty spring would come out. That’s why the town built in that area is called Druskininkai (‘Salty Town’).
The symbol of the room is an ARROW.
